This is my ode to Mud Bay, where my grandparents lived on the waterfront of Madrona Beach Road, well into my adulthood and where, to some extent,I grew up. My family moved around the Olympia area a lot when I was a kid –I went to schools in Olympia, Tumwater, and Lacey. The Bay was always The Bay, the social hub of our larger family. I lived there in the third grade. The current owner kindly lets me sit on the beach every now and then. It is my bliss place.
If you are wondering what the “good side of the bay” means, they lived on the west side of the bay and my grandfather told me it was the good side because you got the glorious soft morning sunrise reflecting off the bay, rather than the harsh, unrelenting sunset reflecting on those miserable people on the other side of the bay. Or something like that.
The track is essentially a quickly recorded demo I did all myself with Lisa adding on vocals. As I progressed through recording the massive song pile, I realized there was a shambling charm to this demo that I would not likely duplicate and decided to leave well enough alone. Finit!
